The ten commandments of good helmet design
Safety
BMW Motorrad helmets meet and in many respects exceed the ECE 22-05 standard. All of them have an expanded polystyrol inner shell of variable thickness, so that each area of the head (chin, forehead, crown, back and cheeks) gets the proper degree of protection.
Fit
The helmets are available in sizes from 48 / 49 to 64 / 65, and can be individually adjusted for the perfect fit using cheek and neck pads, which are available in various sizes.
Ventilation
All BMW Motorrad helmets have a highly effective low pressure ventilation mechanism. The AirFlow was the first helmet in the world to implement the AirFlow principle, allowing the air to pass through a special mesh and create a pleasant cooling effect.
Versatility
The BMW Motorrad range includes the right helmet for just about every use. For example, the System 6 flip-up helmet, with one-handed operation, built-in sun visor and clever four-hinge mechanism, is ideal for bikers who place a premium on comfort.
Fasteners
All BMW Motorrad helmets have an additional neck strap to keep them in place in the event of a crash. They also incorporate a user-friendly ratchet lock or double-D fastener, depending on their use.
Comfort
Virtually all BMW Motorrad helmets have a removable, washable, breathable and antibacterial liner made from Du Pont Coolmax® or Hydroplus™.
Weight
Every gram of weight saved makes riding that much more enjoyable. Despite its glass fibre shell, built-in sun visor, double-glazed visor and the complex mechanics of the chin section, the System 6 helmet weighs in at just 1,570 grams approximately (size 58/59). The Sport helmet weighs even less at 1,380 grams, and at only a shade over 1,000 grams, the Carbon Enduro is one of the lightest
enduro helmets in the world.
Aerodynamics / aeroacoustics
BMW Motorrad has its own wind tunnel, a luxury other manufacturers can only dream about. This allows us to test every helmet design under real, reproducible riding conditions, and then optimize its aerodynamics and aeroacoustics. So as well as their active safety benefits, the helmets are among the quietest in their class.
Design

Visors
All BMW Motorrad visors feature a high-performance antifog and antiscratch coating, while the System 6 and Sport helmets feature a double-glazed visor. As such, they offer an unrivalled level of fogging prevention.
